The Predator Monitoring Sampling layer is used as the Sampling Frame for Predator Surveys conducted by the Department's Predator Monitoring Unit. The Sampling Frame is defined by a grid of 4 square mile hexagons (sampling units) covering the extent of California. The Unique_ID field in the attribute table is to identify individual sampling units. This layer was first created as the Sampling Frame for the 2008-2012 Multi-Region Mesocarnivore survey effort funded by the State Wildlife Grant T-11-1. The layer has since been used for multi-species predator surveys targeting the Sierra Nevada red fox and Wolverine. This layer is also used as the spatial component for the database housing predator survey results, and disseminating this information out to stakeholders and land managers.
