Cal-IPC, with funding from the California Wildlife Conservation Board (CWCB) Prop 1 Stream Flow Enhancement Program, has mapped Arundo donax across the Central Valley at high resolution to serve as a foundation for removal projects. Our goal is for this dataset to help RCDs and others plan successful Arundo control programs and get funding to implement them. The Arundo distribution data ensures that a control program can be implemented strategically over an entire watershed, from top to bottom, limiting re-invasion of treated sites. This dataset is set up to allow acreage to be tallied by watershed. To that effect, this dataset also includes Sonoma Ecology's Arundodataset of the Delta, a project funded by DWR and completed in 2016. Along with the mapping, in this project Cal-IPC is working to (1) provide the CWCB with an analysis of Arundo impacts on water and sensitive species in the Central Valley and (2) establish a standard permitting approach and program structure for successful watershed-scale Arundo eradication projects in the region.
<purpose>This dataset shows the distribution of Arundo donax in Central Valley watersheds. </purpose>

<useconst>This data was gathered by head's up digitization of Arundo polygons using various sources of aerial imagery from over the last six years. Throughout the valley there will be places where either low quality images, riparian canopy or single canes of Arundowere unable to be detected. We think it's reasonable to increase watershed estimates by 20% to mitigate this effect. This is the March 2019 final draft of this dataset. This final version of the dataset is available for download from www.cal-ipc.org. Please contact Dana Morawitz (dfmorawitz@cal-ipc.org) for more information on this data/ this project.</useconst>
