BASE DATA STRUCTURE. Comma delimited .txt file. WHAT EACH RECORD REPRESENTS. Each record is the detection of one or more San Joaquin kit foxes from a point identified by the coordinates. The data were collected as part of a statewide kit fox monitoring program began in 1971. Surveys were conducted quarterly to analyze factors that may impact kit fox presence. The two most influential factors on kit fox presence seemed to be badger presence and field cultivation, although further research needs to be done to confirm the findings. HOW DATA WERE COLLECTED IN THE FIELD. Detection observations were made by 2 observers, driving roads at 10-15 miles per hour, and using spotlights. BASIS FOR THE GEOGRAPHIC COORDINATES. GPS unit.
