The dataset was downloaded from http://www.fws.gov/carlsbad/GIS/CFWOGIS.html, the metadata was converted to be compatable with ArcGIS 9.3, and the coordinate system was converted from NAD_1983_UTM_Zone_11N to NAD_1983_California_Teale_Albers by the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG). The DFG edited the metadata in some sections. Generally the critical habitat was digitized based on 1:24,000 digital orthophoto quarter quadrangle images, aerial photographs, the California Department of Fish and Game Natural Diversity Database, species occurrences from in-house survey data, and the staff biologists' knowledge of the habitat and hydrology in the area.
