These data identify, in general, the areas of proposed critical habitat for Atriplex coronata var. notatior (San Jacinto Valley crownscale).
<purpose>Critical habitat constitutes areas considered essential for the conservation of a listed species. These areas provide notice to the public and land managers of the importance of the areas to the conservation of this species. Special protections and/or restrictions are possible in areas where Federal funding, permits, licenses, authorizations, or actions occur or are required.</purpose>

<procdesc>Generally the critical habitat was digitized based on 1:24,000 digital orthophoto quarter quadrangle images, aerial photographs, the California Department of Fish and Game Natural Diversity Database, species occurrences from in-house survey data, and the staff biologists' knowledge of the habitat and hydrology in the area. Specifically the data set began by using the following soil types from Riverside County soils data: Chino silt loam Chino silt loam, drained Chino silt loam, drained, saline-alkali Chino silt loam, drained, strongly saline-alkali Domino fine sandy loam, eroded Domino fine sandy loam, saline-alkali Domino silt loam Domino silt loam, saline-alkali Domino silt loam, strongly saline-alkali Traver fine sandy loam, saline-alkali Traver fine sandy loam, strongly saline-alkali, eroded Traver loamy fine sand, eroded Traver loamy fine sand, saline-alkali, eroded Waukena fine sandy loam, saline-alkali Waukena fine sandy loam, strongly saline-alkali Waukena loam, saline-alkali Waukena loamy fine sand, saline-alkali Willows silty clay Willows silty clay, deep, saline-alkali Willows silty clay, deep, strongly saline-alkali Willows silty clay, saline-alkali Willows silty clay, strongly saline-alkali Developed areas were removed from the data based on aerial photos generally at a scale of 1:4000 Then following edits were also made: Upper Salt Creek: created by heads-up digitizing using historical georeferenced aerials (1962 and 1974), I3 imagery and wrivsoils_selection.shp, generally at a scale of 1:4,000 Alber Creek: created by heads-up digitizing using historical georeferenced aerials (1980 and 2010) I3 imagery and wrivsoils_selection.shp, generally at a scale of 1:4,000</procdesc>
