Biologists from the Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office identified the locations of existing populations of the species employing California Natural Diversity Database records and and observations in our records. These occurrence records were overlain on data layers depicting soils and elevation. The relationship of known populations to existing development was evaluated by use of USGS ditgital orthophoto quarterquadrangle imagery. Boundaries were drawn to incorporate contiguous areas containg suitable habitat (vegetation,slope, elevation) and exclude developement. To facilitate legal description, the boundaries follow section or fractional section lines of the Public Land Survey System. Where these lines were absent (areas within historical Mexican Land Grants) we used a companion set of data developed by the California Division of Forestry which extends the Public Land Survey System grid into the historical land grants. Draft maps were prepared with data projected to the Albers Conic Equal Area projection on the North American Datum (NAD) of 1927 empolyed by the State of California's Stephen P. Teale Data Center.
