The purpose of this inventory was to map the distribution of extant vernal pool complexes in Modoc Nationalk Forest. The inventroy was designed for use by the Forest Service to make informed decisions in sensitive species and off-road vehicle management. In 2005, Dr. Robert F. Holland interpreted black and white digital orthophoto quadrangles to map vernal pool habitats. Most of the othrophoto quadrangles were compiled from air photos taken in summer of 2001. Individual polygons were digitized on-screen using Arc9.0.
